Immunotherapy As An Alternative Cancer Treatment

The cause of various cancer diseases has beleaguered the medical industry for so long even with the advancement of modern medicine. The risk of the patient dying is high especially if the patient is in the advanced stages of the disease. Radiation and chemotherapy are just two of the treatments prescribed with cancer surgery as the last option to remove cancer cells; however, these treatments do not guarantee that the patient will be cancer-free and risk of recurrence is eliminated. One of the latest treatment, immunotherapy, is a promising one for cancer.

Breast cancer is one of the common cancer types that affect Americans. According to a fact sheet by the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER), an estimate of 232,340 new cases of breast cancer for 2013 was reported with 22.6 deaths per 100,000 cancer patients. However, the risk of surviving the 5-year survival rate, where a patient is declared cancer-free is high with 89.2%. Various survival rates and fact sheets though depend on the cancer type the patient was diagnosed. The earlier the cancer was diagnosed, the better the chance and probability the patient will survive the disease. 

Radiation And Chemotherapy Treatments 

Radiation and chemotherapy treatments are the two common medical treatments prescribed for cancer patients. The treatment involves the patient being exposed to high doses of radiation to prevent the cancer cells from metastasized. Although the treatment can prevent the cancer cells from spreading, side effects are also observed among patients who have undergone the process. The radiation therapy not only kills the damaged cells, it also damages healthy, normal cells. Cancer patients might experience nausea, vomiting, extreme fatigue, fertility problems, pain as well as susceptibility to infections. 

Immunotherapy - Latest Alternative Treatment for Cancer 

Immunotherapy cancer treatment is relatively new in the list of treatments for cancer and is used conjunctive with other cancer treatments; it negates the negative symptoms that patients experience. The integrative cancer treatment though is not for all cancer patients as the FDA has approved the treatment for the following types including melanoma, leukemia, Kidney, prostate, breast, cervical, ovarian, colorectal and lung cancer. The treatment is given in different ways including injecting the vaccine, intake of the prescribed pill or through intravenous application. 

Although the integrative cancer treatment  is new, it shows great promise to become one of the most effective cures for cancer. As the treatment is based on the patient's immune system, it is best to visit one of the medical health facilities that offer the therapy.
